"Why don't you look like your dad?" Born from an affair his mother had with a fellow co-star during a musical, growing up, Sunggyu's childhood was a bit of a wild one. Plenty of rumors circulated during the time after he was born and frequently blind items blatantly concerning his mother and other actors littered the newspapers; it made attending schools in Korea difficult as he was constantly asked about his father. Despite wanting to raise the child as his own, Sunggyu's adopted father enrolled him in a school in Japan, touting having cultural diversity at a young age would be good for someone like Sunggyu. In a heated argument years later, Sunggyu learned it was only because they wanted the accusations to stop.
"No one can know about this." High school brought him back to Korea, with enough time passed that meant his mother and father were no longer popular enough celebrities to garner more horrible gossip. Keeping secrets from family was something Sunggyu hated. Knowing his baby sister was kept in the dark only made him act out more, gaining him a reputation as a 'bad boy' of sorts in the more affluent circles. But there was little anyone could do as his grades were above average and he stayed active through vocal lessons and his high school choir. He still regrets not talking about things sooner, a thing that he carries negatively about himself to this day.
"But music, she saved my life." Music was what kept Sunggyu going. His passion for writing music helped land him a small group of friends who he can't imagine being without.
"This will determine the rest of your life." Yonsei University had the sense of prestige that his parents wanted him to embody. The pressure was on when he was taking the college entrance exam, his father strong-arming him into attending, but allowing him the choice of his major. For Sunggyu, it was easy. He lived and breathed music since he was a little boy and while a lot of his talents came from someone who denies his existence, he was capable of using it to his advantage.
"Brothers faithful unto death." Joining KAO was something at first Sunggyu was reluctant to do. He didn't want to have to earn his keep somewhere or buy his friends. But again, with urging from his parents, he decided to rush, eventually pledging for Kappa Alpha Order. He had heard all the negative things, heard how you had to come from money, be a jock, or both. Despite it, he went for it anyway. Honestly? His pledge experience was almost as bad as expected. The hazing wasn't as bad as years past, but he had a few nights where he questioned everything.
